I wanna rock!
2020 JCC Battle of the Bands to be held Jan. 18

DIRECTIONS TO THE JCC:
Take Thompson Rd. to Ridgecrest Rd., then take your first quick left into the JCC parking lot. Walk around to the back of the building via the right side (past the Early Childhood entrance) and enter at the JCC Fitness Center.

Six high school bands will soon be rocking out and battling for bragging rights along with some pretty cool prizes.

The Sam Pomeranz Jewish Community Center's 2020 high school Battle of the Bands concert will be held on Saturday, Jan. 18 at 7 p.m. in the JCC Sports & Fitness Center's Schayes Family Gymnasium, 5655 Thompson Rd., DeWitt. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. Admission is $10 at the door and open to the public.

The JCC of Syracuse is on a mission to reboot its high school Battle of the Bands competition this year. After having to cancel the show last January due to a snow storm, the JCC is now looking to come back bigger and better than ever.

Each band will be given 30 minutes to play, which includes set-up time. Following is the lineup of bands and order that they will perform:

  • MK Ultra
Syracuse Academy of Science, Paul V. Moore High School (Central Square)
  • Hypothermia
Paul V. Moore High School (Central Square)
  • Undefeated
    Lowville Academy and Central School
  • Rogue Sound
Cortland High School, Homer Central High School
  • Filled to the Brim
New Hartford Senior High School, Perry Junior High (New Hartford), Vernon Verona Sherrill Middle School, Whitesboro Middle School
  • Decent
    Lafayette Junior-Senior High School

The winning band will receive a $200 cash prize, eight hours of studio time at More Sound Recording Studio in Syracuse and $200 to perform at Winter Fair 2020 on Sunday, Feb. 9. The 2018 Battle of the Bands winner was classic rock band Churches and Graveyards from Marcellus Sr. High School.

This year's Battle of the Bands judges will be Lorenzo Maldonado, More Sound Recording Studio; Joe Morgan, More Sound Recording Studio; Heather, WOLF-FM radio personality; and Karley Harmon, Family Times Magazine.

For every high school student admission, the JCC will donate $1 to his or her school district's music department.

The JCC of Syracuse is again expecting a good crowd for this friendly teen competition. The Battle of the Bands concert has typically drawn up to ten bands from all over Central New York. The shows are filled with quality talent and get the house rocking.
