JCC billing to begin this month

Dear Members and Families,

We hope that you and your family are doing well as the Sam Pomeranz Jewish Community Center and more of Central New York continues to reopen slowly. The JCC has purchased a variety of personal protective equipment (PPE) and developed comprehensive protocols to help stop the spread. So far so good. Staff have been doing an outstanding job of applying the new training and standards that we’ve set. We’re heading in the right direction.

Our Senior Kosher Lunch Program began weekday curbside pickup service on June 1 and seniors are loving chef Donna’s awesome cooking again. Unfortunately, this summer’s Monday evening Senior Kosher Dinners have been canceled. We don’t know when it will happen, but we can’t wait to welcome seniors back to the JCC to socialize and enjoy a meal together.

Our Jerome and Phyllis Charney Early Childhood Development Program reopened on June 8 and held their preschool graduation ceremony this week. Socially distanced, of course. The children were great and looked so mature in their graduation caps.

We are delighted that our outdoor heated pools will open this Saturday, July 4. Semi-private and private swimming lessons will be offered throughout the summer by appointment. However, group swimming lessons cannot be held because of health concerns. Before coming to swim or sunbathe at the JCC pool, please use our new online scheduling system to reserve your time slot.  Also, please follow our new social distancing and health guidelines that will be strictly enforced.

This Monday, July 6, the JCC’s Camp Romano summer day camp for preschoolers and school-age children begins. Camp will run for seven weeks through August 21. Our top priority will be to run camp in the safest way utilizing all necessary health and safety protocols. This year’s summer camp should be very good “practice” for children before returning to school this fall. Spots for camp are still open—contact us today to register your child.

On Monday, July 13, the JCC Neulander Family Sports & Fitness Center will reopen in a modified way. Socially distanced outdoor group exercise classes and pickleball, as well as outdoor and online personal training will be offered. We’ll also continue our live online Zoom exercise classes for those not quite ready to venture outside. Look for the outdoor group exercise class schedule to be posted shortly on our website and Facebook page. Stay tuned as were looking to add more outdoor workouts and activities soon. We will keep you updated on when we’ll be able to reopen our indoor fitness facilities.

With the JCC pool opening, our building’s main entrance will reopen on Saturday, July 4 with the following adjusted hours:

  • Monday–Friday 8 am – 8 pm
  • Saturday 11 am – 7 pm (membership card required for entry)
  • Sunday 9 am – 7 pm (membership card required for entry from 5–7 pm).

If you are sick, feel ill or have symptoms of COVID-19, please do not come to the JCC. The JCC’s new policy now requires everyone entering the building to wear a mask/cloth face covering and to practice social distancing and good hygiene. Signs will be posted reminding everyone of this “new normal.”

Finally, with the reopening of the JCC this weekend, billing for all membership and program accounts and all prepayments will begin in July. It will be exciting to have our members return to the JCC and help our facility “come alive” again. We can’t wait to welcome you back!

Thank you very much for doing your part during this pandemic to help keep our community safe. Do you have questions about the JCC’s reopening? Please contact us at 315-445-2360 or info@jccsyr.org. We look forward to seeing you back at the “J” soon.

Sincerely,

Marci Erlebacher
