Fall Sunday series offers drumming, yoga and painting programs

Syracuse Jewish Family Service will hold "Family Time with the Family Service," a series of wellness events on Sundays this fall at the JCC of Syracuse. The events will start on Sept. 18 and run through Dec. 11, and consist of drumming circles, family-style yoga and painting. The programs are open to individuals and families, and geared to individuals ages six and older. Whether you come alone, with a friend or with the entire family, all are welcome!

The events will begin with drumming circles at 12:45 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 18. The program will be led by Jimbo Talbot, owner of DrumQuest Adventures and Rhythm. His motto is, "Feel happy and healthy, one beat at a time!"

For each Sunday event, boxed lunches by Catering at the Oaks, as well as snacks and drinks, will be available to purchase starting at 12:15 p.m. The programs will then follow starting at 12:45 p.m. The cost of each program is $10 pre-paid/$12 day-of for adults and $5 pre-paid/$6 day-of for children, with a $30 pre-paid/$35 day-of family maximum. The cost for lunches and snacks is extra.

The first Family yoga will be held on Oct. 9. These sessions will be facilitated by JCC yoga instructor Linda Santanam. Yoga has been shown to offer benefits to bodies and minds of all ages, including gains in flexibility, balance and strength, emotional equilibration, stress reduction and even cognitive health.

The painting workshops will begin on Oct. 16 and led by Barbara Baum, a lifetime painter and educator. These guided but unstructured experiences are meant to allow both creativity and confidence, leading the way for the expressive arts experience to sharpen the brain, lower stress and bring joy.
