An important message about JCC security

Image: If we all do one random act of kindness daily, we just might set the world in the right direction.

Dear JCC Members and Families,

We are all extremely saddened by the news of yesterday’s tragic violence at Tree of Life Congregation in Pittsburgh. Our deepest condolences and prayers go out to the affected families. The JCC of Syracuse stands in solidarity with the congregants and people around the world who condemn such hatred.

Although this heartbreaking event is very troubling, we want to reassure you that there is no known threat locally. As always, we are in close contact with local law enforcement through Susan Case DeMari, Jewish Federation of Central New York security liaison, who are committed to the safety of the local Jewish community.

In addition, we want to remind you that the JCC is extremely vigilant when it comes to facility safety and security. Our secure building has a variety of solid protocols in place to keep occupants safe. We have taken many measures over the past several years to beef up both our building’s physical security as well as staff training. This is an ongoing process that really is never complete, and we are continually evaluating our protocols and making enhancements as necessary. In fact, plans are being finalized for additional security upgrades to begin shortly.

As we begin to move forward and pray for healing among the Pittsburgh community, the JCC of Syracuse will remain vigilant in maintaining a safe environment for everyone. Thank you very much for being a part of the JCC family and your continued confidence in us.

Sincerely,

Marci Erlebacher
