Neulander Family Sports & Fitness Center

JCC Fitness Center renovations starting Aug. 22

Under construction image

The Sam Pomeranz Jewish Community Center’s Neulander Family Sports & Fitness Center will soon be undergoing a “face lift” and some major “under-the-hood” improvements.

The JCC Fitness Center’s first floor adult fitness room will be overhauled with a new floor, all new state-of-the-art cardio machines and a vast majority of new strength training equipment. The Fitness Center's outside entrance as well as the fitness room and its adjoining multipurpose weight room will be closed for the renovations effective Aug. 22 and reopen on Sept. 2.

During the partial closure the JCC’s group exercise classes in its dance studio, spin/TRX room and second floor yoga studio will continue as scheduled. We are also offering many special group exercise classes in addition to our regularly scheduled classes from Aug. 22 through Sept. 2.

The indoor running/walking track and Schayes Family Gymnasium also will remain open. However, the gym may operate on a reduced schedule certain days to accommodate equipment and supplies deliveries. Participants of programs being held in the gym should call ahead to confirm schedules.

For additional details on this new equipment and renovations project, see our frequently asked questions (FAQ).

“We’re very excited to bring in the new equipment and give our facility a nice refresh in order to better meet the fitness needs of our members,” said Patrick Scott, sports & fitness director. “Some of the equipment will be upgraded versions of what we currently have and some will be brand new to the JCC. During the approximately two weeks of down time during the renovations we encourage our members to take advantage of the Fitness Center’s more than 50 group exercise classes offered weekly and lap swim in our outdoor pool to add a little variety to their normal workout routines.”

Frequently Asked Questions

JCC Fitness Center Closing for New Equipment and Renovations

When will the Fitness center be closed?

  • A portion of the fitness center will close starting Monday, August 22 and will remain closed until on or around Friday, September 2. Our goal is to be fully reopened by Labor Day weekend.

What will be closed?

  • The main fitness room and its adjoining small multipurpose free-weight room will be closed. Also, because we’ll be bringing equipment in and out of the Fitness Center’s outside entrance, that door will be closed as well. All Fitness members must enter through the JCC’s main entrance at the front of the building and check in at the fitness desk.

What about group exercise classes?

  • Group exercise classes will continue as usual.

What can I use while the Fitness center is closed?

  • Members may still attend all group exercise classes. The TRX/spin room will be available for use, as well as the upstairs track and basketball court.
  • We are also offering many special group exercise classes in addition to our regularly scheduled classes from Aug. 22 through Sept. 2. See the fitness desk for the full schedule.

Why is this happening?

  • In order to provide a better member experience, the JCC felt it was time to update and upgrade its fitness equipment. Our goal is to provide a top of the line fitness center that is clean and comfortable, with a staff that cares about its members. This new equipment will help us to better provide those things, as well as draw in new members to the JCC.
