Start your fitness journey or stay active this fall at the JCC. There are so many classes and programs to choose from to help members stay on track and reach their goals.

Here’s a highlight of the JCC’s fitness offerings:

Personal Training

The JCC’s personal trainers work to design unique workout plans that are tailored to the needs and goals of each client. Those interested in personal training can choose 30- or 60-minute one-on-one sessions, or sign up for group sessions. Personal training offerings now also include Pilates reformer sessions — a mind body exercise program that develops core strength, posture, and mobility. For more information, please contact Will Masiclat at [email protected] or 315-445-2360 x144

Classes on Zoom

The JCC began offering some fitness classes on Zoom as an option during the pandemic, and continues to do so. See what classes are offered via Zoom by visiting jccsyr.org. Participants must register for Zoom classes in advance and will receive a confirmation email with the Zoom link. Please contact Paula Pacini, Group Exercise Coordinator, at [email protected] or 315-445-2360 x144 with any questions.

Cardio Drumming

New this year, the JCC is offering cardio drumming on Fridays from 10am -10:45am. Members can let their inner rock star out all while getting in a full body workout. This class can be completed seated or standing, while using a large exercise ball secured on step risers and 1-pound drumsticks. Benefits include improving coordination, reducing stress and anxiety, and improving cardiovascular health.

Group Fitness

Cardio drumming is just one of the JCC’s many group fitness classes. Other classes include TRX, Bootcamp, Nia, Move & Groove, Barre, Muscle Sculpt, Pilates, Yoga, TaiChi, Cognitive Games, Cycle, Active Adult Exercises, and Line Dancing. Find all our gym offerings and schedule at https://jccsyr.org/fitness-center/

Members Basketball

New this fall, the JCC will offer yearly basketball membership for $200 to play on Sundays from 9am – 11am. This is a change from previous years — The JCC will no longer be doing drop-ins. Please note this only includes members basketball and does not apply to use of the pool, fitness center, or discounts toward the Early Childhood Development Program, Camp, or after school and enrichment classes. These additional benefits are available by becoming a basic JCC member. Please contact Nick Finlayson at [email protected] for more information.

Pickleball

Come play pickleball at the JCC on Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 6pm – 9pm and Sundays from 11:30am – 2:30 pm. It’s free for JCC fitness members, and non-members can participate for $10 per night. The JCC has one indoor pickleball court and two outdoor courts that are open dependent on weather. Renovations are also planned to convert the tennis courts into pickleball courts, so stay tuned. What’s New at the JCC?

By Carlett Spike

A new year means new happenings at the JCC. Both regulars and newcomers can explore these programs and upcoming events:

Holocaust Library

A new library dedicated to Holocaust history and literature has been established at the JCC by Dr. Alan Goldberg. The Holocaust Library will be housed in the Jerome and Phyllis Charney Holocaust Information Resource Center. A professor emeritus of Syracuse University’s School of Education and director of the Holocaust and Genocide Initiative, Goldberg hopes this library will serve as a source of Jewish pride and education.

The collection includes several hundred books on history, biography, essays, fiction and poetry provided by Goldberg. “We are beyond thrilled and honored that Alan has chosen the JCC to house this incredible library of books,” said Marci Erlebacher, executive director of the JCC. “We hope that this can be a resource to many across the Central New York community.”

JCC Starts the New Year with a New Fitness Team

The New Year brings new responsibilities and new goals. Whether it be physical health, mental health, or a communal feeling, the JCC is excited to help you reach your New Year’s resolutions and make your experience at the Center even better than before! To accomplish this, the JCC has divided the previous Sports & Fitness Director role across four staff; creating the Fitness Team.

Sherri Lamanna; the Director of Health, Phys Ed, and Preschool Gym Classes, will now oversee gym rentals and scheduling for the facility. Nick Finlayson; our Membership Director will be more involved in the day-to-day operations of the Fitness Center. Paula Pacini; Group Exercise Coordinator, will also be more involved in scheduling and communication with members. Will Masiclat; Personal Trainer Coordinator, he will oversee the fitness floor and personal trainers.

The newest face, Will Masiclat, joins the team with initiative and a passion for the community that goes beyond employment. He’s been in the fitness industry for 7 years. “I am most excited to develop more involvement in the JCC Fitness program. I hope to educate our members, both new and existing, about the benefits of adding personal training or group fitness into their current workout routine so that they progress past plateaus and continue living long, healthy lives.”

Nick Finlayson, can’t wait to get the ball rolling. “One special thing about us is that customers are not just a number. They are real people that can find many of our services anywhere but choose to spend time with us.  I feel like a healthy customer experience is something that is often overlooked in today’s world.  Here at the JCC, we strive to listen and make our members satisfied, which is pretty special nowadays” he explained.

Sherri Lamanna has worked at the JCC for 24 years. She is excited to work with the new fitness team. “I believe we all have a lot to bring to the table to make a great fitness experience for both new and existing members.” Sherri will now oversee rentals and scheduling for the gymnasium.

Paula Pacini, is constantly looking for new and improved classes to help enhance the member experience at the JCC. “I would like to have better communication with our members about what we have to offer at the JCC and help spread the word to potential members on what classes and services we provide.”

The JCC’s upcoming “Dollar and a Dream” promotion is the perfect opportunity to experience the difference at the JCC firsthand. Join the JCC in January for just $1.00! After your first month, you will receive a 20% discount off your one-year Full-Facility Fitness Membership. Come see what the JCC has to offer!

If the  Team’s enthusiasm is any indication, the JCC is on track to see great improvement to an already stellar place. Don’t be afraid to start the new year off on the right foot, by taking advantage of our new “Dollar & a Dream” promotion and checking out all that the JCC has to offer.
