Meet Your Fitness Goals At the JCC

Start your fitness journey or stay active this fall at the JCC. There are so many classes and programs to choose from to help members stay on track and reach their goals.

Here’s a highlight of the JCC’s fitness offerings:

Personal Training

The JCC’s personal trainers work to design unique workout plans that are tailored to the needs and goals of each client. Those interested in personal training can choose 30- or 60-minute one-on-one sessions, or sign up for group sessions. Personal training offerings now also include Pilates reformer sessions — a mind body exercise program that develops core strength, posture, and mobility. Classes on Zoom

The JCC began offering some fitness classes on Zoom as an option during the pandemic, and continues to do so. See what classes are offered via Zoom by visiting jccsyr.org. Participants must register for Zoom classes in advance and will receive a confirmation email with the Zoom link. Cardio Drumming

New this year, the JCC is offering cardio drumming on Fridays from 10am -10:45am. Members can let their inner rock star out all while getting in a full body workout. This class can be completed seated or standing, while using a large exercise ball secured on step risers and 1-pound drumsticks. Benefits include improving coordination, reducing stress and anxiety, and improving cardiovascular health.

Group Fitness 

Cardio drumming is just one of the JCC’s many group fitness classes. Other classes include TRX, Bootcamp, Nia, Move & Groove, Barre, Muscle Sculpt, Pilates, Yoga, TaiChi, Cognitive Games, Cycle, Active Adult Exercises, and Line Dancing. Members Basketball

New this fall, the JCC will offer yearly basketball membership for $200 to play on Sundays from 9am – 11am. This is a change from previous years — The JCC will no longer be doing drop-ins. Please note this only includes members basketball and does not apply to use of the pool, fitness center, or discounts toward the Early Childhood Development Program, Camp, or after school and enrichment classes. These additional benefits are available by becoming a basic JCC member. Please contact Nick Finlayson at [email protected] for more information. 

Pickleball 

Come play pickleball at the JCC on Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 6pm – 9pm and Sundays from 11:30am – 2:30 pm. It’s free for JCC fitness members, and non-members can participate for $10 per night. The JCC has one indoor pickleball court and two outdoor courts that are open dependent on weather. Renovations are also planned to convert the tennis courts into pickleball courts, so stay tuned. JCC Fitness Center’s in-person workouts

Proof of vaccination required to enter the JCC

PLEASE NOTE::
Masks must be worm at all times while inside the building.

Reservations are required for
in-person TRX classes and all Zoom classes.

The JCC Fitness Center’s indoor workout facilities are currently open to members for in-person workouts and personal training.

Effective Saturday, May 29, 2021, showers have reopened. Please bring your own towel. For full details, please review the information below.

Both in-person and Zoom group exercise classes are currently being offered.

FITNESS CENTER REOPENING DETAILS

The JCC Sports & Fitness Center is currently open. See hours above. Reservations are no longer required except for Zoom exercise classes
and all in-person TRX classes.

Please enter through the JCC main entrance (front of building).

Everyone age 2 and older MUST wear a mask while in the building.

Rules and Regulations

  • All members and guests must enter through the main entrance. The Fitness entrance will remain CLOSED until further notice.
  • When entering the JCC we will ask you some basic health screening questions. If you are sick, feel ill or have symptoms of COVID-19, please do not come to the JCC.
  • Effective Saturday, May 29, 2021, showers have reopened. All members and guests are encouraged to bring their own towel and water bottle, and wash between each use at the facility.
    • A water bottle filling station is available at the water fountain between the restrooms in the JCC’s main hallway near the main entrance.
    • Bottles of water are also available for purchase from two vending machines at the JCC.
  • Doors will be left open to allow for improved air flow, and to limit high touch areas.

Entering the JCC

  • Anyone presenting with coronavirus symptoms or with a temperature of greater than 100.4 will be asked to leave. They cannot return until they are fever free for 72 hours without fever reducing medication.
  • If a member tests positive for COVID-19, regardless of whether they are symptomatic or asymptomatic, that member may not return to exercise until they have completed at least 10 days of isolation from the onset of symptoms or have produced a negative COVID-19 test.
  • Upon entry all members will be given a spray bottle with disinfectant to use on the exercise equipment.
    • It is expected that members spray and disinfect their equipment as soon as they are done using it.
    • Hand sanitizer will be available throughout the facility as well.

Group Exercise Classes

Basketball Court Usage

  • Member’s Pickup Basketball (age 18 and older) runs Sundays from 9-11 am. It is free and open to JCC Fitness members only.
  • Basketball court is available only for basic drills and/or shoot-around. No games or contact drills are allowed at this time.
    • Members must bring their own basketball.

Free beginners running program starts Jan. 5

December 6, 2021

The Syracuse Chargers Track Club’s Everyone Can Run Beginners Running Program was postponed last fall due to concerns over the pandemic. It will now start on Jan. 5, 2022 at the Sam Pomeranz Jewish Community Center’s Neulander Family Sports & Fitness Center. Greg Tuttle of the Syracuse Chargers, a USA Track & Field-certified coach, will lead the weekly sessions on Wednesdays from 5:30–6:30 p.m. through Feb. 9, 2022.

The free six-week program will be held at the Fitness Center’s indoor track. Proof of COVID vaccination and wearing a mask is required to attend. Informational presentations from running related professionals will be held at most of the sessions.

Patrick Scott, the JCC’s sports and fitness director, says this program is for everyone and that people of all fitness levels are welcome.

“The Chargers do a great job of teaching people how to run properly,” he says. “The strength of your leg muscles, your bones, your body posture, your gait—all of these affect your stamina. By the end of the program, you will be able to run for 30 minutes with relative ease.”

The class will start with walking and the number of running intervals will increase every week on a set schedule. Each participant will also be given a Syracuse Chargers pedometer and a two-week trial pass to the JCC’s Fitness Center.
